Coffee and a paintbrush. The best therapy around.
With all the stress there is in life, work, bills, relationships, friendships, life choices and so on, it’s hard sometimes not to go crazy. My answer to this growing problem is simple. Give me a warm cup of coffee, and a paintbrush… or pen… or pencil, or stick in the mud. Let me create. Creativity is some of the best therapy I’ve found. So in this post I’d like to encourage you to try it. I will, for the sake of maybe opening someones mind up to the idea, show some of the paintings and drawings I’m most proud of… and least proud of.
The first time I picked up a paintbrush in the pursuit of clearing my mind, it ended in frustration and I vowed that “NEVER AGAIN!” would I try to paint.
About 3 years later I decided to try it all again and painted an abstract tree. I’m so glad I did because now it’s my best creative outlet. No matter the day I can come home and paint or draw with a warm cup of coffee and work out whatever is bouncing around inside my head. These are just a few of my favorites that I’ve done over the years.
Last night I made strides in pushing through my artist block. Results? My first rose painting and my first landscape painting. I’m very pleased with how they both turned out.
It’s been over 6 years since that first painting and I’m very proud of my improvement. I can’t wait to see what the new year holds for me and my art. I hope this post can be an inspiration to at least one person to pick it up and try it. Or maybe you’ve tried it and like me you weren’t satisfied with the outcome. Don’t give up! Try it again! The results may shock you. Creativity is Therapy, and we’re all a little insane.
