Looking for a quick project that adds a bit of charm? How about a great little Do-It-Yourself Wire Cloche using items from the hardware store? While browsing the web for cloche decor ideas I came across a post by Carol Spinski over at Raised in Cotton using a gutter strainer. You can see her cloche here. I was inspired. So the next time we were out at the local hardware store I picked up a strainer, knob, some washers and made my own. It was fairly easy and took about half an hour. So what do you think?
I used washers to cover the opening at the top so I could open it up a bit more and some silver colored craft wire I had on hand to wire it closed. Add a cute little glass knob and tada, wire cloche. Here’s a pic of the goodies.
I took the gutter strainer out of the box and spread it open a bit as evenly as possible.
Then I used the craft wire to wire the open side together. I used the washers both inside and outside the top opening to add some stability and a bit of thickness for the screw holding the knob. The most difficult part was cutting the screw that holds the knob to a shorter length without messing up the thread. We (and by we I mean Shad) cut about an inch from the screw which came in the packaging with the knob.
You could use this anywhere! Bathroom, kitchen, mantle. Great idea!
Hope you enjoyed. Let me know what you think.
