Let me tell you a story…
There was this very enterprising woman. Smart, funny, handy. One day she decides to redo a guest bedroom. In her infinite wisdom she bought 2 cans of satin paint for the walls and one can of high gloss paint for the trim. Before beginning her project, she very carefully removed the can of high gloss paint from the room so that there would be no mix up. This is important. There will be a test.
She painted all of the walls a lovely satiny light gray. Some might call it putty, but I digress. As she began on her second coat she emptied her first gallon of satiny goodness paint. She grabbed the handy second gallon and hmmm…a difference of color.
Wow, big difference.
But it always dries a bit different so let’s keep painting.
A wall and a half later she pays attention to the voice in her head screaming that something is just not quite right. Hmmmm…..look at paint can. Stare in disbelief. Look away and back again. Still sitting in front of her is the can of HIGH GLOSS paint with which she has just covered A WALL AND A HALF!!
Cue weeping, wailing and gnashing of teeth
She immediately plied Google with the question of how to fix this and was very much saddened by the information she found. ‘They’ say that you should sand it down, prime and repaint. No, no, no, no, no. So in her not so infinite wisdom she quickly paints a coat of the aforementioned satiny goodness paint over the not quite dry high gloss and leaves the room. There may have been a glass of wine involved about here.
The next day she ascends to the guest room to find that the wall has accepted the satiny paint with no ill effects. She paints another layer of the satiny goodness paint for good measure, washes her hands and calls it done. Now to paint the trim with the offending high gloss paint.
P.S. A special thanks to the friends and family that responded to my SOS text with commiserations and good thoughts. Those that just laughed will have to sleep on the couch 😉
P.P.S. All of the photos were taken with my phone in the heat of the moment so they are not the best quality, sorry.
